Description

Dear Colleagues,

First of all I want to congratulate to all of you for the election at the most important positions in IAH and to wish you full success in your work.

Second, I should like to announce a change in the chairmanship of the IAH Commission on Hardrock Hydrogeology. As previously announced, after 15 years of its guidance, I decided to resign the position of the chairman of the Commission. I believe that after such a long time a change might be useful. I suggested several names of colleagues, who have dedicated a lot of energy and efforts to the Commission work during the previous years, for broader discussion among the members of the Commission. After this discussion Prof. Georgios Stournaras from the University of Athens was selected unanimously the best candidate for this position. Recently I had discussion with George during the Congress in Athens; he accepted to be the chairman of HyRoC and is willing to dedicate his time and energy to keep the Commission work effectively running.

Please, support him in this position.

In the same time I should like to thank you for your long-time co-operation and support. The change in the Commission chairmanship does not mean my resignation of my professional activities - I shall support any future IAH activities, inclusive the next Congress in Hyderabad.

With best wishes,

Jiri Krasny

Dear Colleagues,

As I announced at the meeting of the IAH Commission on Hardrock Hydrogeology held 20. September 2007 in Lisboa I decided, after 15 years of its guidance, to resign the position of the chairman of the Commission. I feel that after such a long time a change should be made. Now when the new IAH Council was elected for the next period, I suppose there is also adequate time to announce this change officially. In previous months I suggested several names of colleagues, who have dedicated a lot of energy and efforts to the Commission work during the previous years, for broader discussion among you - the key members of the Commission. After this discussion Prof. Georgios Stournaras from the University of Athens was selected unanimously the best candidate for this position. Recently I had a discussion with George during the Congress in Athens; he accepted to be a chairman of HyRoC and is willing to dedicate his time and energy to keep the Commission work effectively running.

Please, support him in this position.

In the same time I should like to thank all of you for your long-time co-operation and support. The change in the Commission chairmanship does not mean my resignation of my professional activities - I shall support any future IAH activities, the HyRoC work and also the next IAH Congress in Hyderabad, India, to be held Sept. 6-12, 2009. In this connection, as one of the conveners, I should like to invite you to participate at this important “hardrock” event where four sessions will be focused explicitly to hardrock issues. The deadline for abstract submission is 31 January 2009.

Looking forward to seeing you in Hyderabad.

With best wishes,

Jiri Krasny

Dear George

Many thanks for your kind information. May I in turn congratulate you for the efficient job you are doing as President of the Hellenic chapter of IAH and forthcoming Chairman of the IAH Commission on Hard rocks.

I hope to see you at many occasions in the forthcoming years, and I would encourage you to get in touch with our IAH organiser of the next IAH Congress in Hyderabad, Dr S N Rai, very soon. I’m copying this email to him.

The Hyderabad congress will be organised jointly between IAHS and IAH, and the IAH portion will be mainly about hard rock hydrogeology, exactly your theme!

Be aware that I really appreciate the dedicated work of our voluntary officers of the IAH.

Best regards,

Willi Struckmeier (from home) President of IAH

Dear George,

Thank you for your kind message and congratulation to you for your nomination as the new chairman of the IAH Commission on Hard Rock Hydrogeology. I'll be looking forward for joint collaborative work with you and the Greek IAH Chapter. Meanwhile I wish you the best.

Dear Jiri

I was very happy for the decision of the HyRoc Commission to appoint Prof. G. Stournaras as new Chairman: I knew him from a long time and I am convinced of his deep sense of responsibility towards this task and the scientific community. He will surely work with great efficiency and enthusiasm.

At the same time I'm sorry that you leave the office because so far I have seen your efficiency and passion that, over time, have increased in me the interest in the topics covered by the Commission.

However, the good news is that you will continue to cooperate and this can only make everyone happy.

As to me, in my limited abilities, I'm more than willing to support the new Chairman in his functions.

The Congress in Hyderabad will be a good opportunity to see you again. I sincerely hope to be able to participate

Best wishes

I am happy that Prof. Stournaras is appointed as new Chairman of HyRoC. He has been a active member of this Commission; he has successfully organised some meetings of Middle & East Mediterranean Working Group of HyRoC in Athens. I believe that this experience he has to transmit and enrich as the Chairman of HyRoC.

I also like to emphasise the indisputable big contribution of Prof. Krasny as head of HyRoC for the consolidation of Hardrock Hydrogeology.

I wish to Prof. Stournaras many successes as the new Chairman of HyRoC and with my modest possibilities I would like to support him in his new function.

Best regards,
